Eyeliner is a beauty staple many women use on a daily basis. While I don't wear it everyday, I do tend to use it quite often. Besides deciding what color to wear, the main question is what type of eyeliner: pencil (or kohl), liquid, or gel.
I don't consider myself particularly partial to any type; I like them all equally! They are all wonderful for different purposes.
Pencil/Kohl: Pencil eyeliner creates the softest look of the three; it can be smudged very soft or built up to be more intense. I would say it is the most versatile of the three types because it can be used on the top lash line and the bottom lash line. I have quite a few different brands but one of my favorite is the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner. As far as more traditional pencils I think MAC has some wonderful ones as well.
Liquid: This creates what I would consider the harshest line; it can have anywhere from a matte to shiny finish but normally more shiny. I love liquid liner, especially the felt pen type as I find they are the easiest to apply and have thin nibs for precise application (such as adding a wing or flick). The only "downside", if you consider it that, is it's tough to make liquid eyeliner softer.
Gel: I consider gel eyeliner a mixture of kohl and liquid eyeliners. I think it's the most difficult to apply but it has its upsides that make up for it. Gel eyeliner tends to be the longest lasting and it is pretty much the best of both worlds as far as kohl and liquid liner. It can be built up to the intensity of liquid liner or smudged down to the softness of a pencil.
